Located in a country setting along the French Creek Valley in Crawford County, Adams Place provides 39 units of senior living in Cochranton, Pennsylvania.  The name Adams Place is in honor of one of the town’s founding fathers, John Adams.  Farming and gardening are rooted in the community with an early history of agricultural heritage.  The design style is farmhouse modern with architectural details such as copulas and crisp white siding, tied together with black shutters integrating with the agriculture vernacular.  The front of the building has a large gathering porch that wraps around and connects to the Community Room, each space with its own fireplace for enjoyment of these areas throughout the year.  The central entrance hosts a dual-purpose learning center comprised of a Library and Classroom with full technology and computer access, projection screen and table monitors, providing educational opportunities connecting this rural development with educational programs from around the world.  A building highlight is a multi-functional Farming Kitchen near a detached greenhouse where the garden’s harvests can be cooked or canned for preservation. This room offers large demonstration tables, open pantry shelving, a commercial refrigerator and freezer, industrial sink, hand sink, commercial range, and preparation areas for the tenants to experience a wide variety of food preparation stages all led by a local master gardener. Featured exterior spaces include a Greenhouse with potting tables for year-round growing and seasonal raised garden beds, which provide an opportunity for seniors to connect with their rural roots while encouraging activity.  The project was financed with PHFA PennHOMES and LIHTC tax credit funding.
